CAUCUS CO-SPONSORS NATIONAL EXPUNGEMENT WEEK WORKSHOPS IN NYC

NEW YORK, NY (September 21, 2019) — Today marks the start of National Expungement Week across the country. In light of New York State’s new law—championed by the Caucus during the 2019 legislative session—that, for the first time, expunges low-level marijuana convictions, the Caucus is co-sponsoring a series of events being held in communities hit hardest by the War on Drugs. These workshops will focus on "know your rights" education related to record sealing, voter registration, and available reintroduction support services.

National Expungement Week (NEW) is a week of events across the U.S. that offers expungement and other forms of legal relief to some of the 77 million Americans with convictions on their records. These convictions can restrict access to housing, employment, education, public assistance, and voting rights long after sentences have been served. NEW events will offer as many wraparound services as possible to restore people’s rights and lift up communities. NEW is made possible by Presenting Sponsors Houseplant and Canopy Growth Corporation, dozens of local sponsors and partners, and the tireless work of community-based organizations dedicated to repairing harms of the War on Drugs. For more information, please visit www.offtherecord.us or @expungementweek on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

National Expungement Week runs from September 21st through September 28th, and those interested in learning more can attend one of several workshops taking place throughout New York City.
