BPHA Caucus Issues Statement on Judge Shirley Troutman's Confirmation to the NY Court of Appeals
ALBANY, NY- Today, the Chair of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus, Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages (AD-22), released the following statement in response to the NYS Senate’s confirmation of Judge Shirley Troutman to the New York State Court of Appeals:
Judge Shirley Troutman’s addition to New York’s highest court is a culmination of her decades of work on the bench. It is only fitting that a major proponent of inclusion and diversity in our legal system now help lead court administration. She will bring with her a lived experience that reflects the communities that she will serve, and a philosophy that supports the dynamic policies and initiatives aimed at protecting and uplifting disenfranchised communities.
Serving on New York’s Court of Appeals is not just a high honor, but an immense responsibility to the public. A responsibility that we trust Judge Troutman will take with the utmost sincerity. We commend Governor Hochul for nominating a woman of color to the bench and the NYS Senate for confirming Judge Troutman. May she leave a tangible and progressive legacy in her tenure.m
