CAUCUS CHAIR SOLAGES COMMEMORATES BLACK HISTORY MONTH
The Chair of the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus, Michaelle Solages, released this statement to commemorate the beginning of Black History Month:
"In the vibrant mosaic of New York, Black History Month is an opportunity to spotlight the extraordinary contributions of Black New Yorkers who have left an indelible mark on our State.
From the indomitable spirit of trailblazers like Malcolm X and Shirley Chisholm to the cultural renaissance brought forth by legends such as Langston Hughes and Ella Fitzgerald, our state has been a crucible for brilliance and innovation. As we stand on the shoulders of activists like Audre Lorde and leaders like Percy E. Sutton, whose dedication to justice and equality has inspired generations, we must also acknowledge the pressing need for reparations and the vital importance of addressing historical injustices.
In celebrating, let's not only recognize the luminaries of the past but also amplify the voices of those shaping our present and future. Black New Yorkers continue to excel in various fields, contributing to the arts, sciences, business, and beyond. May this month serve as a catalyst for progress."
