ALBANY, NY (December 10, 2025) – “As my colleagues and I have stated time and again, Robert Brooks should be alive today. His wrongful death is a stark reminder that our carceral system dehumanizes and devalues the lives of New Yorkers. A prison sentence is not the death penalty, and there are no executioners in our State. While we are finally seeing justice for some of those who took part in his murder, our communities must continue to demand true accountability and systemic justice for every incarcerated individual. The Caucus will continue to fight to ensure that Robert Brooks’s death was not in vain and that the many unreported deaths of New Yorkers are not forgotten. This issue speaks to the heart of our humanity, and our work does not end with one legislative package.”
